Fuse Holders

Before getting into fuse holders, do you understand what a fuse does for your car’s audio system? A fuse is a little component which protects your system against power and electrical surges. In turn, your wiring to your car’s audio system maintains its integrity. Basically, a fuse keeps your system from frying, for lack of a better term.

So, extrapolating from that basic definition of a fuse, a fuse holder is a device which houses the fuses. There are two main types of fuse holders – fully closed or open styles. With the open styles, you can expect capped plug-ons, fuse blocks and even fuse clips. Those fuse holders that are fully enclosed means that you may have a separate fuse cartridge or carrier which is then inserted into the fuse holder.

There are standard sizes of fuse holders and they depend on what system components you are protecting as to what size you get. For instance, if you have quite a bit of power going on in your car like amplifiers, subwoofers and more, you just might have a 600v 100 amp fuse holder. You need something heavy duty to handle the power load.

There are also 100 amp inline fuse holder anl versions. And how about the 5 x 20 mm fuse holder? Be sure to also look into ¼ x 1 ¼ fuse holders too. Of course, when checking into these fuse holders, be sure to determine just what they are capable of in terms of power protection against surges and short circuitry.

Just like there are different types of fuse holders, there are also a number of different mounting choices to select from. For instance, you migh choose an ac in line fuse holder or a pcb mount fuse holder. With an inline car fuse holder, these are fully enclosed and typically house a cylindrical type of fuse. Inline fuse holders are also made of durable materials to protect the fuse inside from the various elements from a car like excessive heat and various car liquids like oil.

A blade fuse holder is a bit different from the in line fuse holder. With the blade fuse holders, your fuses plug into little receptacles first. Then these receptacles are placed in some type of fuse mount.

In the world of fuse holders, you will also run into various brands and forms of these holders. There are low profile fuse holders and an anl fuse holder. A popular brand is the Belling Lee fuse holder. The important thing to do is read up on the various components of your car’s audio system to see just how many amps you have to sustain. From there, you can choose the fuses and fuse holders that would best suit your needs.
